The lumbering beast of a label known as Feeding Tube Records shows no sign of slowing down; Ted Lee and Byron Coley release LPs and tapes at a considerable clip, dropping at least one new edition almost every week. Stylistically, the label is as eclectic as they come: if it’s interesting and weird, it’s fodder for the Feeding Tube roster. There are common threads running through the label’s catalogue, but they’re incredibly loose strands that stretch from Western Massachusetts outward across the globe, touching a great many genres — those that are established and others that are barely existent are in the Feeding Tube inner orbit. The five key members of the ensemble are staples of the Massachusetts sub-underground, and all are present and accounted for on this, their sophomore LP. Theirs is a music of shrouded presence, a slithering psychedelia that elicits a hypnotic, mantra-esque atmosphere littered with a smattering of plucks and stray chords. These signifiers coalesce to elicit a form from the surrounding space, almost capturing song from thin air. Weeping Bong Band are conjurors, masters of a hallucinatory magic. The almost metaphysical nature of Weeping Bong Band’s sound is a keen accompaniment for various forms of investigation and experimentation. Mindful introspection, nocturnal meandering and cerebellum rewiring are all perfect activities for Weeping Bong Band’s misty improvisations to accompany.
