Sofia, geboren in Frankrijk uit Maghrebijnse ouders, beleeft gelukkige kinderjaren in de streek waarin zij opgroeit. Haar vader heeft echter heimwee naar huis en zo vindt zij zichzelf op een dag terug op een boerderij in Marokko. Maar zij is nauwelijks tien jaar. Sofia zweert dat ze er vandoor gaat en terugkeert naar Frankrijk wanneer ze 18 jaar geworden is. Maar in het leven zijn er veel dingen die er in slagen om onze plannen te verstoren...
