'Killing Bono' is het verhaal van twee uiteenlopende levens. Wanneer Bono en zijn band U2 afstevenen op wereldberoemdheid bewandelt zijn schoolvriend Neil McCormick het tegenovergestelde pad. Slechte drugs, vreemde sex, bizarre kapsels, Neil heeft het allemaal meegemaakt tijdens zijn zoektocht naar roem. Maar soms hebben de grootste mislukkelingen de meest interessante verhalen te vertellen. "Het probleem van jou kennen is dat jij alles gedaan hebt wat ik altijd had willen doen," klaagde Neil ooit tegenover zijn beroemde vriend. "Ik ben jouw dubbelganger," antwoordde Bono.
