Aljkavost i niska razina sigurnosti doveli su do havarije koja je u svim mogućim tamnim bojama ocrtala opasnosti korištenja nuklearne energije. Stanje u Černobilu i danas je prepuno ozbiljnih upozorenja, no čini se i da je ta havarija podigla razinu sigurnosti nuklearnih elektrana u cijelom svijetu.
