DESCRIPTION

Takaki and Akari are two classmates in elementary school. During their time together they have become close friends. Their relationship is tested when Akari moves to another city because of her parents' jobs. Both of them struggle to keep their friendship alive, as time and distance slowly pulls them apart. When Takaki finds out that he is moving further away, he decides to visit Akari one last time.

5 Centimeters Per Second bestaat uit drie delen. In het eerste deel zien we Takaki en z'n beste
vriendin Akari, die na de basisschool allebei naar een andere school gaan. Ze proberen nog contact te
houden door brieven te schrijven, maar verliezen elkaar langzaam uit het oog. In het tweede deel zit
Takaki in z'n 3e jaar op de middelbare school. Een meisje uit z'n klas is verliefd op hem, maar durft
het niet te zeggen. In het laatste deel is het 2008, en alle personages zijn inmiddels hun eigen weg
gegaan. Takaki werkt tegenwoordig als computerprogrammeur in Tokio. Op een dag denkt hij een
bekend gezicht te zien, maar op het moment dat hij achterom kijkt, rijdt er net een trein voorbij.

Told in three interconnected segments, we follow a young man named Takaki through his life as cruel
winters, cold technology, and finally, adult obligations and responsibility converge to test the delicate
petals of love.
