Storyline
Dean Corso, a rare book dealer, is appointed by a renowned book collector, Balkan,
to verify the authenticity of one of his books. According to sources, only three copies of that book exist,
and in three different places. After losing his friend who has been killed for that book, he leaves on the mission.
He wants to verify Balkan's book but finds something else! During his dramatic travels through Paris and Madrid,
too many things beyond his expectations are revealed!
Dean Corso, een boekendetective, gaat op zoek naar zeldzame boeken.
Op een dag krijgt hij van een zekere Boris Balkan de opdracht om de echtheid van het 17e-eeuwse boek "De 9 Poorten" van het Rijk der Schimmen na te gaan.
Er zijn over de hele wereld maar drie exemplaren van dit satanische boek overgeleverd, maar slechts een ervan heet authentiek te zijn.
Wie het juist hanteert, zou in de mogelijkheid zijn de Duivel in hoogst eigen persoon op te roepen. Om de drie boeken - en in het bijzonder, de negen geheimzinnige gravures - met elkaar te vergelijken,
reist Corso van New York naar Toledo, Parijs en Sintra in Portugal. Moord en dood blijken hem daarbij te achtervolgen, net als twee raadselachtige vrouwen.
