The story of American punk rock - from the 60s garage bands of

the Pacific North  West through to the Stooges, the New York punk

scene and beyond.

A two-part look at the evolution of punk music in America, from

its fresh mid-sixties garage-band adolescence, to its rather hip

fruition in mid-seventies New York, to the more recent Nirvana-led

rebirth.



The first part features Richard Berry, Lenny Kaye, the Count Five and

the Kingsmen, who recorded the seminal, 1963 smash Louie Louie.



The second part looks back at the seminal years of punk, garage and

trash rock. In this instalment Cyril Jordan of the Flamin' Groovies

shares his views on San Francisco hippies, the celebrated and inventive

60s musician and producer Kim Fowley, and the Groovies' 1971 classic

Teenage Head. Plus Sylvain Sylvain of the New York Dolls, Cramps

drummer Miriam Linna, Deborah Harry, Patti Smith, Alan Vega and others.
