A gang of claim jumpers is infesting the territory, gaining ownership of undermanned mining operations through extortion...and leaving no live witnesses. But one victim, quick-drawing gambler Luke Cromwell, escapes. Meanwhille, Marshal Lightnin' Tyrone is also after the gang; recovering from one raid, he meets femme fatale Opal Lacy, who may not be healthy for him to know. When Luke, now calling himself the Silver Kid, joins forces with Marshal Tyrone, the gang had better watch out ...unless something drives a wedge between the new allies.

After a gang of claim jumpers kill his pa, the Silver Kid joins forces with marshal "Lightning" Tyrone to catch them in The Duel at Silver Creek.One problem, a nasty femme fatale,Opal Lacy, threatens to sweep Lightning off his feet, and jealous "Dusty" Fargo butts in.
Clocking in at just 77 minutes, this quick, lean little film showcases Siegel's talents without a lot of padding. But credit should go to screenwriters Gerald Drayson Adams and Joseph Hoffman for coming up with those names!Other characters include "Johnny Sombrero" and "Rat Face."
Siegel's first Western and his first film in colour (very nicely shot by Irving Glassberg). Statutory stuff about wicked claim-jumpers and the quick-draw artiste who sees justice done.
But it's handled with great verve and more than a suspicion of tongue-in-cheek by Siegel, who rewrote as much as he could, giving the characters outrageous names (Silver Kid, Lightning Tyrone, Opal Lacy, Tinhorn Burgess), stretching the amorous complications and the villainies into near-absurdity, and building up a special explosive bit for Marvin in one of his earliest roles.
