"Hästpojken" är en amerikansk dokumentärfilm som handlar om den autistiske pojken Rowan och hans föräldrar Rupert och Kristin. Rowan lider av en svår form av autism och är ofta inte kontaktbar. Hans föräldrar märker dock att närheten med hästar och andra djur har en positiv inverkan på Rowan. Eftersom Rupert sedan länge är intresserad av både hästar och naturfolk, får han för sig att shamaner i Mongoliet skulle kunna hjälpa Rowan. Kanske inte att bli helt frisk, men åtminstone bättre. Familjen åker tvärs över jordklotet för att sedan på hästryggen besöka shamanerna.
