Kort na opstijgen wordt er aan boord van een Boeing 747 met bestemming New York een brief gevonden.
In de brief wordt door een terroristische organisatie gedreigd dat de Boeing zal ontploffen als er niet wordt
voldaan aan hun eisen. Inspecteur Alex Recht roept de hulp in van Fredrika Bergman, inmiddels werkzaam
bij het Ministerie van Justitie, die belast is met een uitwijzingszaak. Terwijl de uren voorbij tikken en Alex
en Fredrika uit alle macht proberen deze ramp tot een goed einde te brengen,
