Jesse Lujack (Gere) is een onbezorgde autodief die van het leven houdt, van Jerry Lee Lewis en zijn Silver Surfer stripboeken.
Maar hij houdt vooral van Monica (Valerie Kaprisky), de sexy Franse studente bouwkunde die hij net heeft leren kennen in Las Vegas.
Vastbesloten om haar te laten genieten van het goede leven, gebruikt Jesse al zijn charme om de sensuele Monica over te halen om alles te laten vallen en
hem te vergezellen op een reis naar het zonnige Mexico.
In een vuurrode Cadillac en de vrouw waarvan hij houdt eindelijk aan zijn zijde, waant Jesse zich in de zevende hemel.
Maar ongeacht de hoeveelheid banden die hij verslijt, is er iets wat Jesse niet kan ontlopen.
