Trama:
Un ingegnere edile in crisi con la moglie torna a casa per la festa del figlio e cerca di riconquistare la compagna ma lei, pur apprezzandolo come padre, rimane fredda verso il marito. Nel mentre una cometa si avvicina alla Terra e l'uomo è raggiunto da un'allerta presidenziale al telefono, che gli dice di recarsi presso un aeroporto militare con la famiglia. La festa del bambino viene così interrotta, i vicini si allarmano per non aver ricevuto la stessa allerta e la Florida viene colpita e devastata da un frammento della meteora, grande come uno stadio da baseball. Arrivare all'aeroporto militare non sarà però facile e a complicare ulteriormente le cose c'è la condizione diabetica del figlio...
